APPLICATION OF MEDICAL PLANT EXTRACTS FOR HAIR SHAMPOO PRODUCTION

Abstract

The primary function of hair shampoo is cleansing. The overall appearance and health of the hair largely depend on proper care. The process of selecting an appropriate shampoo is an essential stage of hair care, as it requires consideration of the individual characteristics of both the hair and the scalp. It is evident that different types of hair (damaged, oily, or dandruff-prone) require the use of specific cleansing agents. However, even a correctly chosen shampoo does not always guarantee a healthy and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Frequently, commercial shampoos contain aggressive chemical components that improve the technological properties of the product but may be harmful to consumers. At the current stage of cosmetic industry development, a relevant trend is the formulation of environmentally safe cosmetic products that include biologically active substances of natural, mainly plant-based, origin. According to manufacturers, natural shampoos not only effectively cleanse the hair but also help eliminate dermatological problems and improve the condition of dry, oily, dull, and brittle hair. Therefore, the development of shampoos based on natural ingredients, free from harmful additives, represents an important scientific and practical task. The possibility of preparing shampoo containing medical plant extracts under home conditions was examined. The incorporation of plant extracts into the shampoo composition improves the condition of the hair and scalp. In particular, plantain extract strengthens the hair, stimulates growth, prevents dandruff and split ends, and enhances volume and shine; linden flower extract reduces hair loss, moisturizes, restores elasticity, nourishes hair roots and shafts, and adds natural glow; chamomile extract soothes the scalp, possesses anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, strengthens hair roots, improves microcirculation, and adds shine. The organoleptic characteristics, pH value, foaming ability, foam multiplicity, and foam stability of the shampoo with herbal extracts were investigated. It was established that the developed cosmetic hair-washing product meets the requirements of current normative and technical documentation according to key quality indicators.
