THE INITIAL STAGE OF THE TRAINING OF HIGHLY QUALIFIED MANAGING ENGINEERS FOR THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY OF GALICIA

The article deals with the history of oil specialty creation in Lviv Polytechnic, which is the beginning of organized training of oil engineers in Galicia. The process of introduction of petroleum geology teaching, rotation and oil refining at Lviv Polytechnic School is investigated. The course of teaching chemical technology and ozokerite at the Faculty of Chemistry is analyzed. Opening of the Assosiate Degree in Petroleum and Ozokerite Technology after the First World War at the Mechanical Faculty of Lviv Polytechnic School an Oil Department was opened. The processes of creation and activity of the pre-war period of the Department of Drilling and Oil Production were analyzed, and immediately after the liberation of Lviv from fascist occupation, the Faculty of Oil was opened and the work of the Department of Drilling was resumed. Material base for the training of specialists was important. The laboratory was equipped, the drilling cabinet was opened, mining museum was organized as well. Naturally derived samples of drilling equipment was introduced into the educational process, also the research laboratory was set up in order to conduct studies on natural casing. Educational, methodological and research activities was well-known far beyond the Polytechnic Institute. The Department maintained close collaborations with the Ministry of Petroleum Industry and the sectoral oil and gas enterprises. A new Department of Mining Machinery Construction was opened at the Mechanical Faculty, and a Museum of Mining Machines was founded. The curriculum was complicated and the number of new fundamental disciplines was increased and added by higher mathematics, basic and technical physics, descriptive geometry, trade and promissory notes law and applied mathematics. Stanislav Paraschak headed the Department of Oil Drilling and Production before the Second World War. During the war (1941–1944) the work of the Polytechnic Institute was paralyzed and the department was not work.
