Cosmetic masks are a popular facial skin care product that has a more pronounced effect on the skin structure compared to creams, lotions or gels. They effectively help solve various skin problems thanks to active ingredients that have both cosmetic and therapeutic effects. Each mask is designed with a specific task in mind, and its composition is carefully selected to achieve the desired result. Cosmetic masks can be classified according to several criteria: skin type, intended purpose, effect on the skin, area of application and texture. The growing awareness of cosmetic consumers about the impact of various ingredients on skin health, as well as concerns about irritation, allergic reactions, the presence of acne, age spots and wrinkles, is driving the demand for natural face masks. The work conducted a study of the formulation of a mixed cosmetic mask based on mineral clay with the use of medicinal plants and a structure-forming agent and determined its organoleptic and sensory properties. It was shown that the presence of a high content of polyphenols – rosmarinic acid, flavone derivatives gives Salvia officinalis L. antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. A mask based on kaolin narrows pores, eliminates inflammation, whitens the skin and makes the face tone even. To create a gel-like structure that will extend the duration of keeping the mask on the face without the negative effects of dryness and peeling, the use of sodium alginate was proposed. Hydrogels provide high efficiency in delivering active ingredients to the skin. As a result of the tests, the final formulation of a cosmetic mask was developed, which consists of a mixture of sage herb with cosmetic clay 1:9 and a gel base with sodium alginate with a concentration of 3 %. The mixture of dry ingredients is mixed with the gel base immediately before application in a ratio of 1:3. The cosmetic mask tested in this study effectively cleanses the skin of oil, dries it, relieves irritation, encouraging an even skin tone.
